Bay Window Treatments

If you are familiar with bay windows or have them in your home you know just how good these windows can look. With the beauty and elegance that these windows offer, bay windows are often the center piece around which the rest of the room is decorated. Bay windows are guaranteed to add to the elegance and décor of any room, especially if they are paired with quality bay window curtain rods and window treatments.

Bay window treatments come in many forms, from blind and curtains to drapes and cornices. The types of treatments you chose for the bay windows in your home are completely up to you, though some treatments may be more difficult to implement than other. Because of their relatively large size compared to other windows, finding window treatments for bay windows can be somewhat difficult. Of all the different types of bay window treatments curtains may be the most difficult to pair with your bay windows. It is often hard to procure curtains for bay windows because many bay windows are oddly shaped so regular rods will not fit.

For circular or hexagonal shaped bay windows, curtain rods can be specially made to fit the unusual shape. Because of their extreme size many bay windows also require extra long curtain rods in order to place the curtains correctly. If you require custom made curtain rods to fit your bay windows it is best if you contact the manufacturer of your bay windows to see if they also produce the required curtain rods for your windows.

Bay window curtain rods are made from many different materials and are usually coated to match either the curtains or the bay window. One of the most popular types of materials for window rods is copper because it has a beautiful finish and its neutral color will suffice in almost any environment. If you have a more modern or contemporary style in your home a polished stainless steel or some other flashy metal might look best. A cheaper option would be to use cheap curtains rods made of a hard plastic, though these rods may not support the weight of the larger curtains needed to cover bay windows. Plastic rods are also not an option if you wish to hang heavy or multiple curtains over your bay windows.

For multiple curtains it is recommended that double curtain rods be used to support the extra weight. Double curtain rods are normally made of a strong material and allow you to hang two sets of curtains over your bay window. With two sets of curtains over your bay window you can accommodate two different styles of curtains. You may wish to hang heavy curtains to block out all light during certain times but also have the option to use light curtains that filter the light coming through your bay windows. Whatever type of bay window curtain rods you chose to use in your home you should be sue they are strong enough to hold the curtains that you wish to hang.
